Obituary of Robert C. McLaughlin
Robert C. McLaughlin, 74, husband of Frances (Muise) McLaughlin died peacefully on Thursday morning at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Charles and Frances (Farnsworth) McLaughlin. Mr. McLaughlin spent his childhood in Salem and graduated from SalemHigh School. He continued his education at the University of Lowell Technical School. In 1956 Mr. McLaughlin enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Vandivier as an electrician. He then was employed by the United Shoe Machinery Corporation in Beverly for 35 years. For the two years prior to his retirement, he consulted for the Dynapert Corporation at Cherry HillPark in Beverly, MA.
Robert will best be remembered for his commitment to family and for his love of life. Upon the birth of his children his focus shifted from his love of fishing and golfing, to his love of participating in all the interests of his sons and daughter, particularly when it came to sports. His focus was then directed to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he reveled in their accomplishments.
Along with his wife Frances, Robert spent countless hours volunteering at the TorigianCommunityLifeCenter in Peabody. He was also an avid mystery reader, gardener and cook.
In addition to his wife Frances, Robert is survived by his children Bruce and Cindy McLaughlin of Chester, NH, Wayne McLaughlin, Cheryl McLaughlin, along with Brian and Kathy McLaughlin all of Peabody; ten grandchildren: Melissa, Melinda, Melanie, Brandon, James, Michael, Christopher, Inge, Kayla and Andrew; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Lily. He also leaves his brother Richard and his wife Elaine of Wilmington, MA his sister and her husband Carol and Donald Freeman of Leominster, MA, and his sister-in-law Claire McLaughlin of Danvers, MA. He was pre-deceased by his twin brother Edward.
A Graveside service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 11 AM at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St. Peabody, MA. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 2 to 6 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home 82 Lynn St. in Peabody. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Peter A. Torigian Community Life Center, 79 Central St. Peabody, MA 01960.
