Obituary of Raymond P. Stoey, Sr.
Raymond P. Stoey, Sr., 68, beloved husband of Linda (Cunningham) Stoey of Peabody, died peacefully Thursday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, while in the comforting presence of his family.
Born in Detroit, MI, he was the son of Isabel (Marucha) Stoey of Clinton Township, MI and the late Frank Stoey. He grew up in Hamtramck, MI where he graduated from St. Ladislaus High School, Class of 1963. He later attended Northeastern University in Boston.
Mr. Stoey was a veteran of the Vietnam War, with service in the United States Coast Guard.
He worked as an airline mechanic with Yellowbird Airlines before changing to a train mechanic with the Mass Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) for many years. Later he transitioned to an Independent Agent for Medicare Insurance coverage.
Ray was very active in the Greater Peabody community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Salem, the Elks Lodge 1409 of Peabody, the Lynn Fish & Game Club, the North Shore Computer Society, and the A.A.R.P. of Peabody. He was a Master Gardener and volunteered his time with the elementary schools in Peabody. He was known more as a local cable TV Personality, hosting several shows including Senior Corner, Peabody Issues & Answers, among other Cablevision/Comcast local broadcasts.
He is survived by his wife Linda (Cunningham) Stoey of Peabody, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage; three sons, Raymond Paul Stoey, Jr. & his wife Jennifer of Lynn, Mark A. Stoey & his companion Sandra of Peabody, and Christopher L. Stoey & his wife Renelle of Hamilton, and a son-in-law Tracy Forsythe of Peabody; six grandchildren; a brother Kenneth & his wife Mary Stoey of Green Bay, WI; two sisters Sylvia Gielecki of Manassas, VA and Christine & her husband Steve Salata of Clinton Township, MI; a sister-in-law Sandra & her husband Norm Lavoie of Lynn, several aunts, uncles, cousins and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Forsythe.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Monday October 7, 2013 at 10 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 – 6 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
