"Mr. Logan" was my homeroom and junior high English teacher back in the sixties. I have always remembered him as one of the very best teachers I ever had. I loved to work for this quietly funny man, who encouraged me to look beyond the book I was reading. At the same time, he was forever putting more of his own favorite authors in front of me. It was not a surprise that his degrees were from Salem State. That was/is where the most dedicated and inspiring teachers came from. I hope that my own teaching lived up to his example and the standards he set. Although English was not my field, encouraging students to love to write well was what I most enjoyed. That traces directly to those days in the classroom of this very special teacher.

Nick was one of my mentors when I entered teaching in 1970 at Holten Richmond Junior High. He helped me learn the ways of connecting with my students. He was always available to assist me whenever I asked. As he inspired his students, he was also an enormous asset to his colleagues. I was most grateful for his guidance as well as his friendship over my years of teaching.

It saddens me to hear of Mr. Logan's passing. He was a wonderful teacher whom I always greeted in the school hallways with "But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?" And Mr. Logan would respond "It is the east and Juliet is the sun." The only lines I still remember from Romeo & Juliet after all these years. I always think of him whenever I quote this literary line. God bless him and his family. Heaven just scored an amazing man and beloved teacher. Thank you for making such an impact on my younger self.

Kristen (Doringer) Isabelle DHS Class of 1988

Every student has his/her favorite teacher while in school, but at the time we don't realize that the impact these teachers have on us will last a lifetime. Mr. Logan was one of those teachers. He taught us more than English -- he taught us responsibility, he encouraged us to explore interests we may not have otherwise tried, and he treated us as young adults, all with a wonderful sense of humor. He was one of the fun teachers -- not because he let us get away with things, but because his love of teaching was so obvious, we wanted to be in his class. God bless his family, you're in the thoughts and prayers of a lot of Danvers High graduates.

Dear Arlene and all my cousins:

You have my deepest sympathies. I am happy to have my adult memories of Enoch. We shared some very interesting conversations during your visits. He was so engaging, personable, and strong of conviction. I particularly remember the fun we had at my house and very much enjoyed all the good feelings and terrific food.

Mom was here but went back to my brother Jim's just two weeks ago. I'm calling her there.

Love,

Jane
