Obituary of Charles F Hanlon
Charles F Hanlon, 83, of Peabody, died Sunday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by his family, following a short illness. He was the devoted husband of Theresa (Christopher) Hanlon with whom he shared over 58 years of marriage.
Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marion (Keyes) Hanlon. He was raised in Chelsea and was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School, class of 1949. Two years after high school, Charles enlisted with the United States Army and served for three years during the Korean War and was discharged in March 1954.
Following his discharge, Charles enrolled at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston and received his ASME in 1956. He was employed for over 32 years as a Cost Analyst for General Electric in Lynn. After his retirement, he worked an additional 8 years for the city of Peabody Police Department and managed the evidence room. Upon his retirement, he relocated to Florida where he spent most of his winters for the past 20 years.
Charles was an avid New England sports fans, especially of the Red Sox, and was there for the New England Patriots Superbowl victory on Sunday. He also enjoyed golfing and reading and when he was younger, he enjoyed playing tennis as well.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-laws, Charles and Maureen Hanlon of Bartlett, NH, Stephen and Allison Hanlon of Newburyport, and Richard and Peggy Hanlon of Georgetown, his sister, Helen Hanlon of Danvers, his three devoted grandchildren, Ryan Hanlon and his partner Stashia, Sean and his partner Gabi, and Lauren Hanlon and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
