Obituary of William F King
William F King, 85 of Amesbury, died Tuesday at the Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport following a brief illness.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Fred and Charlotte (McDonald) King. He was raised and educated in Peabody and has lived in Amesbury for the past 40 years.
William was a veteran of the Korean War who served with the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. After his discharge from the Army, William was employed in the leather industry at Tomkins Leather and later, before retiring, he was employed with Goulds Machine Shop as a maintenance worker.
Uncle Billy, as he was known to his family, enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening and camping. However, for the past year he was able, with the help of his niece’s husband Tom Mahoney, to spend time with and sharing in all of his family’s celebrations, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas Time. For that the family was very grateful.
William is survived by his brothers, Arthur King of Georgetown, Donald, Ronald and Allen King, all of Salem, his sister, Elizabeth Rechetnuk of Peabody and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward Hutchinson, George and Fred King, and also by his former wife, Alyce (Greehy) King.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 3:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Burial services will be private.
