Obituary of Dr. George P Rizzone

Dr. George P. Rizzone, M.D., 91, of Lynnfield and formerly of Peabody, died peacefully on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at the Rosewood Nursing Home, Peabody. He was born in Winooski, Vermont on October 28, 1924, the son of the late Angelo and Maria (Mallia) Rizzone and was raised in Peabody, graduating from Peabody High School. He then entered the US Army in 1943 serving in the European theatre campaign during WW II prior to his discharge in 1946. Dr. Rizzone then entered Tufts College undergraduate, and later at Tufts Medical School where he earned his doctoral degrees. He was one of the first Pediatricians to practice in Peabody and later he opened an adolescent unit at the North Shore Children’s Hospital in Salem. Dr. Rizzone then became the Director for the Health Care Center at Tufts University in Medford where he served for 20 years prior to his retirement. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1011 of Peabody. He had a great appreciation for music and enjoyed playing his clarinet with the Golden Echoes, a swing band that played weekly at the Torigian Community Life Center. He is survived by his wife, Elisa (DaCruz) Rizzone of Lynnfield, his two daughters, Dr. Andrea Rizzo and her husband Rosario Rizzo Esq. of Stow, MA and Lisa Rizzone of Billerica, MA his two grandchildren, Francesca Dell’Erba and her husband Christopher of Worcester and Giulia Rizzo of Stow and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Rizzone. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St. Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn.
