Obituary of John G. Carlson
John G. Carlson Swampscott – John G. Carlson, 52, beloved husband of Dawn Allen-Carlson, died unexpectedly on Monday May 2, 2016 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital. Born on December 30, 1962 in Los Angeles, CA, the fourth of five siblings to Elof and Nedra (Miller) Carlson. He grew up in Setauket, Long Island, NY. He graduated from Ward Melville High School and was part of the poetry and math clubs, and the debate team. He attended Yale University to obtain a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering and was the Captain of the intramural volleyball team. He subsequently earned his Master degree from Stony Brook University in Applied Mathematics. John married Dawn Allen in 1987, and a few years later his family grew to include a daughter and son, Justine and Derrick. He worked recently as an Actuary with Transamerica Insurance Company at the Natick office. He previously lived and worked as an Actuary in Atlanta for several years prior to moving to the Boston area. He was a member of the Society of Actuaries. Besides his wife and children, he is survived by his parents Elof and Nedra Carlson of Bloomington, IN; a brother Anders Carlson of Los Angeles; two sisters Christina Carlson of Washington state and Erica Carlson of Florida, several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by a sister Claudia Carlson. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Wednesday May 11, 2016 from 3 – 5 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A family ceremony to honor his life will be held in Indiana at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one’s local National Public Radio affiliate—WGBH, 1 Guest St., Boston, MA 02135.
