Obituary of Gerald J. Donovan

PEABODY – Gerald J. Donovan, 85 passed away unexpectedly at his home at Brooksby Village on Saturday May 7, 2016. Mr. Donovan was the beloved husband of the late Ann (Calderan) Donovan. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Michael and Eileen (McCarthy) Donovan. He grew up in Dorchester, and graduated from Boston College High School, Class of 1947. He attended St. John’s Seminary and earned advanced degrees in education and counseling from Boston College and Newton Andover Theological School. Mr. Donovan was the former Director of the Eastern Middlesex Agency in Malden. He also taught at Boston College. He moved to Brooksby Village in 2001 and became a very active member of the community. He particularly enjoyed combining his love of travel, learning and service by participating in service missions to El Salvador with Asaprosar (Salvatorian Association for Rural Health). Mr. Donovan is survived by six nieces and two nephews and their spouses, many grandnieces & grandnephews, and several great-grandnieces & great-grandnephews. He was brother of the late Sr. Geraldine Marie, SCH (Eileen Donovan), Katherine Donovan, Geraldine Donovan, Anna McBournie, Virginia Thompson, and Joseph Donovan. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a Funeral Mass on Friday May 13, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Brooksby Village Chapel, Peabody. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 – 7 P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
