Obituary of Steve "Spike" C. Vaselis

Steve C. “Spike” Vaselis BEVERLY – Steve C. “Spike” Vaselis, 82, beloved husband of the late Joyce (Worsencroft) Vaselis, died peacefully on Sunday June 19, 2016 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Christos and Bessie (Koka) Vassilis. He grew up in Peabody, and graduated from Peabody High School with the Class of 1952. He went on to enlist in the United States Navy during the Korean War, stationed on the USS Tanner. After his service to his country, Mr. Vaselis settled in Beverly where he lived for 37 years. He was an award winning liquor salesman who was gifted with a great personality and sense of humor, which served him well representing Capital Distributing Company, later Horizon Beverage. He serviced accounts throughout the North Shore and Merrimack Valley areas for 37 years until his retirement. Spike enjoyed friendly camaraderie anywhere, and always delighted in socializing at gatherings. He loved golf, playing cards, especially poker, and meeting his group of friends at the North Shore Mall in Peabody. He was most passionate about his family and friends, and cherished his vacation house in Wells, Maine where the beach became his second home. He is survived by two daughters, Dawn Rezendes of Freemont, NH and Dina Taruz of Danvers along with her husband Sirin Taruz of Salem; he will forever be missed by his five grandchildren, Olivia Chaffee, Ruby Chaffee, Lucas Chaffee, Arif Taruz, and Demir Taruz; he is also survived by many nephews and a niece, Stacey Mandros-Dowd and her husband Kenneth and their daughter Victoria, Chris Vasiles and his wife Deanne and their children Megan and Daniel, and Billy Vasiles and his wife Annmarie. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by a brother William “Billy” Vasiles and his wife Clara, a sister Helen Mandros and her husband James, his son-in-law Douglas Chaffee, and a niece Nancy Carson and her husband Rich. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Friday June 24, 2016 from 10 AM – 12 Noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, and private family burial committal will follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, c/o Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
