Obituary of Robert D Hanson
Lynn –Robert D. Hanson, “Mr. Ice”, 86 of Lynn passed away at Care One Peabody on August 20, 2016. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Sullivan) Hanson with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, MA on August 5, 1930, Bob was the son of the late Justin & Regina (Doucette) Hanson.
Raised and educated in Lynn, Bob graduated from Lynn English High School. An Army veteran of the Korean War, Bob served as a Combat Medic and Army Ranger. Honorably discharged in March 1957, Sgt. Hanson received 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Medical Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal.
For 36 years, Bob worked for the MDC managing skating rinks, swimming pools and parks. In 1967, as the assistant manager of the Revere MDC Rink, he met his wife Patricia (Sullivan) Hanson. They married in 1970.
Bob loved living in Lynn and was proud to live and raise his family in the house his father built. An active member of the First Church of Christ in Lynn, Congregational, he was Head of the Board of Deacons, Church Historian and Church Sexton. Bob was recognized for the witty/thought provoking messages he posted on the Lynnfield Street sign.
As a former semi-professional baseball player, Bob loved the Boston Red Sox and owned every copy of Who’s Who in Baseball. He always had a story to tell and truly appreciated the simple things in life –like a walk along Lynn Shore Drive or a hike in Lynn Woods.
Bob was the brother of the late Justin F. Hanson, Jr. He leaves a sister, Virginia L. (Hanson) Healy of Danvers along with several nieces and a nephew. He was the proud father of two daughters, Amy L. Hanson-Kuleszka and her husband Michael Kuleszka of Lynn and Beth A. Hanson of Peabody. He will be greatly missed by his two grandsons Mickey and Max Kuleszka.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Care One at Peabody and the hospice team from Care Dimensions for their compassion and care.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
