Obituary of Joseph H. McPhee
Joseph H. McPhee 97, of Peabody, husband of the late Eleanor P. (Damore) McPhee, passed away at the E.N. Rogers Memorial VA Hospital in Bedford on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 with his family at his side. Mr. McPhee was born in East Boston on August 2, 1919 son of John and Marcella (Curtis) McPhee. Raised and educated in East Boston, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and served as T/Sgt and saw battle in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe and was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1948 he re-enlisted into the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant and served with the 1001 Supply Squadron before being honorably discharged on June 30, 1963. Following his 20 year career with the Air Force, he became a mail carrier for 12 years, a position he held until his retirement. Mr. McPhee was an avid sportsman who skied until the age of 86, a skater and also enjoyed boating. He dedicated his life to his 3 daughters teaching them the value of family and making sure that they were all involved in the many family recreational activities. He was a member of the VFW and DAV Posts and volunteered playing Taps at funerals for many years. While his daughters were growing up he had a special saying that he always shared with them “Your mother could stretch a dollar to two and was the cleanest person I ever knew”. Mr. McPhee is survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Kathleen A. and Warren Deleskey of Ipswich, Donna M. and Kenneth Soper of Peabody, and Linda J. Mulcahy of Dover, NH, his 2 cherished grandsons, Patrick J. and Mathew R. Mulcahy of NH and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings John McPhee and Mary Cutlip. His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, February 26th from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 27th followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joseph H. McPhee, E.N. Rogers Memorial VA Hospital, Attn: Voluntary Service, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA 01730-1114.
