Obituary of Dorothy M Nowicki

Dorothy M (Janowski) Nowicki, 94, of Peabody, died Wednesday morning at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Stephen A Nowicki. Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Bronislaw and Teresa (Lyzszkowski) Janowski. She was raised and educated in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1940. She has lived in Peabody for the past 65 years. Dorothy was employed as a secretary for the department of education purchasing agent and retired in 1983. She continued working after her retirement at Salem State College for Student Services for many years before she finally retired. Dorothy was very involved in the community she lived in. She was recently recognized as the longest active volunteer at the Peabody Council on Aging, and while at St. Joseph’s Church in Peabody was a member of the St. Cecilia Choir, Holy Rosary Society and the Ladies Guild. She also enjoyed traveling, knitting, and crocheting as well. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Janice Nowicki of Auburn, her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Donald Maida of Middleboro, and is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Christopher, Michael and his wife Alison, Jonathan and Daniel. She was predeceased by her brother John Janowski. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Peabody Council on Aging, 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960.
