Obituary of Robert M. Valentine
Robert M. Valentine, 90, of Peabody, died peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Rosewood Nursing Home, Peabody with his family at his side. He was the husband of Patricia (Brown) Valentine with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Bob was born in Medford, MA on May 26, 1927, the son of the late Malcom and Rose (Morison) Valentine, was raised there and was a graduate of Medford High School in 1945. He had been a machinist for most of his life and was a co-owner of the Val-Ken Machine Products Co of North Reading for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was also a talented musician starting at the age of 10 years playing in the high school band and his true passion was his professional trombone playing with the former Sammy Kaye Band that was taken over by Roger Thorpe. He also played with the Bob Batchelder Band at the Totem Pole in Newton and Herb Pomeroy Band and later went on and played his trombone on many cruises. He had been the mentor for Dick Nash who played with many bands in Hollywood. Bob was a devoted communicant of St. Adelaide’s Church. He is survived by his wife, Pat, his three daughters, Susan Bourret Valentine and her husband Larry of Leverett, MA, June Kempton and her husband Kevin of Littleton, MA, and( Roberta) Bobbee Valentine and her partner John Bongiono of Hampton, VA, his six grandchildren, Emily Kaufman, Susie Grogan, Rose Evans, Daniel and Samuel Sheehan and Patricia Di Lorenzo, two great grandchildren, Graham and Warren Di Lorenzo and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Richard Valentine and the brother of the late Bill Valentine. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at St. Adelaide’s Church 708 Lowell St. West Peabody. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in his memory.
