I was reading the last letters she wrote to my family after the death of my mother. They were friends since they met together in Strasbourg. I remember how she was encouraging us in our faith and in the fact to learn English... and French. She encouraged me to come in Boston. But I it was impossible for many reasons. Finally she was happy to know that we kept the faith till today. She was remakable and a very good woman.I would enjoy to meet her family or to receive them home. Family ATHIA

I am saddened to learn of the passing of dear Barbara, affectionately known as Aunty Barbara. Our time was shared tracing our family heritage and the frequent Family Reunions. I am sure the English family will join me in sending our condolences at the loss of a great lady. Rest in Peach Aunty Barbara

Barbara was a true friend to countless people and loved, respected and admired by countless people. She was devoted to her own family, of course, and also to her family of professional colleagues. She spread her kindness and graciousness and knowledge to all at Winchester High School where I knew her: to her language department teachers, guidance counselors, fellow administrators and especially to the students. She stayed in touch with so many of us, by phone in later years, and was unfailingly interested in what was happening in our lives and in the world. Barbara Holden was a special person who will be missed by so many.<br>kay Tiffany, retired Winchester High School counselor

Miss Holden, as we all knew her, was one of the best teachers that I had the pleasure of knowing at Malden High School. She spoke only French to us and demanded the same in responding to her. She also had the ability to see each of us as individuals and seemed never to be sidetracked by our sometimes quirky adolescent behavior in class. She had a big influence in my love of all things French.

Barbara was my mom's best friend and grew up across the street from her. My mom, Adela, went through school with Barbara and they both shared many memories of their times together. My mother passed away from breast cancer in 1989 and Barbara kept in touch with my sister and I ever since. She was a graceful, intelligent and caring woman and cared a lot about her family. The last ten years or so, each of her relatives and friends who received a birthday card were ones that she asked me to create. What a joy it was to open a letter and see a request for 20, 30, 40 cards at a time. She said she'd address them and get them ready for mailing. She loved each of you so much. Heaven has gained a beautiful soul.
