Obituary of Barbara R. Holden

Barbara R. Holden, 96, of Peabody died Saturday, November 4, at the Kaplan Estates in Peabody. A lifelong resident of Peabody, she was born on February 10, 1921, the daughter of the late Charles E. and Rose (Wolloff) Holden. She was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1938 and received her bachelor of Arts degree at Colby College in 1942. She late got her Master’s degree from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1947 and then studied in France at Strasbourg University. Barbara began teaching advanced classes in French at Malden High School for 20 years before becoming the head of foreign languages at Winchester High School for 22 years retiring in 1982. She enjoyed traveling, reading and doing genealogy tracing her family beginnings. She is survived by her three generations of 47 descendants of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews of the Holden family. She was predeceased by her siblings, E. Gertrude Masterson, Florence A. Holden, Arthur Holden, Harold Holden and Charles Ralph Holden. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 until 12 Noon at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon with Rev. Leslie Hastings officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery Peabody.
