I remember Mike having more energy & intensity than anyone I knew in the Sandburst years. (He took quick weekend jaunts to Italy & was back at work on Monday morning before I arrived.) Mike definitely worked from his *heart*. Such a unique soul. Truly sad.

I remember spending a lot of late nights in lab with Mike working on Start-Jr in the early 90s. Those were very exciting times. I learned a lot about making hardware from watching Mike. I also spent a lot of time with Mike outside of lab; Eva called him my bad influence.

I only got to see or talk to Mike a few times since moving to Pittsburgh. Without fail, Mike's grinning face would come to mind whenever I am having more fun than is proper.

Mike always lived larger than life. I will remember all of the good times.

The first time I met Mike was in MIT RLE prior to my move to MIT LCS in 1998 and then we worked together at Sandburst, a company he co-founded. Mike could really build anything into hardware. I spent many hours with Mike trying to optimize a bandwidth allocation algorithm that was eventually implemented by Mike and others into a Sandburst chip.

I'll always remember Mike's wine tasting sessions at LCS. I will remember dropping him off at a bar near Sandburst on Friday evenings before I left for home even though he had driven to Sandburst so he could (safely) walk home afterward. I talked to Mike a few months ago and he was, as always, cheery and enthusiastic about research ideas. I will miss him, his zest for life and his cheerfulness.

We are heartbroken to lose our dear friend, Mike. His sweet and gracious intellect always made us smile and laugh. We looked forward to Mike's wine tasting parties in the Bay Area. He loved a good game and made each wine tasting a highly organized and fun event. Through the years I worked with Mike at CDT, Quantum and HStream. Mike was deemed 'genius' by many coworkers.
He created an amazing web portal, Better Office Pool. A few weeks ago he called to say the site had received a big thumbs up for being consumer ready. He was so very excited and happy to reach that milestone. Whether engineering a new technology, writing a screen play, or planning a party, Mike did it with passion, love and attention to detail. The world will truly miss you, Mike. Thank you for your love and laughter and for brightening so many lives. Barry and Cherise Thompson

Mike was my neighbor for the last 6 years and was such a nice guy. Every time I saw he was spent a few minutes talking about sports. He was always friendly and kind to my boys. He will be missed. RIP Mike.

Mike was one of my brother's best friends and one my first heroes. He was like a second older brother to me and was a constant fixture in our home through high school and college breaks. Mike was selfless. There is nothing he wouldn't do for me, from volunteering his time to coach a weekend intramural basketball team to buying me my first six pack. My family extends its heartfelt condolences to Mike's siblings, friends, nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed. Sincerely, Jon Cyrluk
