Obituary of Michael Scott Ehrlich
Michael Scott Ehrlich, 55, of North Andover, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Lahey Medical Center, Burlington, MA after a brief illness, surrounded by family and close friends. He was born in Des Plaines, Illinois on September 22, 1962, the son of the late Sherwyn and Edith (Appel) Ehrlich and was raised in Wilmette,IL, graduating from New Trier West High School. He was a graduate of M.I.T. in Cambridge, MA, earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He also completed much of his PhD work, also at M.I.T. A brilliant intellect, Mike worked as a design verification engineer for several computer companies in Massachusetts such as DEC, Cavium, and AMD and was a consultant for many start-up computer companies. He co-founded Sandburst Corp of Andover, MA. He later also founded Clinichron Corp, a medical diagnostics company, and Better Office Pool, an online software venture. He was extremely talented and excelled in many areas. He was a gymnast in high school and M.I.T. where he was the captain of the team. He played the Saxophone, coached the Acton’Boxborough High School Diving team, and even wrote screen plays. He was very involved in the local theatre community, initially running lines with his “niece” Katherine Hall and producing videos of shows, then creating and managing a website of Anna Smulowitz Productions Theatre Company, and finally becoming an actor himself, appearing in several shows such as Oliver, Heidi, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He brought the audience to tears of laughter in his comedic performances, was a consummate professional and motivational role model for the team, always willing to jump in and help out anywhere he could. He loved watching sports, and was a March Madness enthusiast, running a for-charity tournament bracket through his Better Office Pool company. He converted to Cathollicism as an adult, and while residing in Boston, he was a lector at St. Leonard’s Church in the North End. He was an eager tutor and mentor for his two nephews, Mitchell and Cayden, as well as Katherine, Caroline and Joseph Hall. He is survived by a brother and sister-in -law, Rick and Pam Ehrlich of Saratoga, California, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Ehrlich Hill and Kevin Hill of Houston, TX, and Linda Ehrlich-Jones and Lee Jones of Aurora, IL, his best friend, Julie McGray Carleton of NO. Andover, his nephews, Mitchell and Cayden Ehrlich of Saratoga, CA, his second “adopted” family the extended McGray clan of Peabody, and had many lifelong true and loving friends. Mike had a loving and open heart to all. He was enormously selfless and generous of mind, body, and spirit. His family and friends were the most important things to him and he devoted his life to helping/inspiring/ entertaining those around him. A Visitation will be held on Friday, November 24, 1017 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. (Downtown) Peabody facility next to St. John’s Church. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Following cremation, a graveside committal will be held at a later date.
