Obituary of Louise Ethel O'Brien

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Louise Ethel (Jung) O’Brien died Sunday, January 28, 2018, at age 89 at Oak Grove Center in Waterville, ME. Born in Peabody, MA, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Ethel (Knowlton) Jung. She grew up in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1945. Her professional career spanned working as a telephone operator at New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and serving as an administrator at J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody. After retiring, she relocated to Fairfield, ME to be close to her son, Scott O’Brien, and his family. Louise was a dedicated volunteer at the Fairfield Interfaith Food Pantry, where she served on the Board of Directors and spent countless hours helping her community. Beyond working at the pantry, she enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, gardening, and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Edward O’Brien and son Robert O’Brien. She leaves behind two sons, Richard O’Brien and his wife Patricia (Calnan) O’Brien of Lynn, MA, and Scott O’Brien of Waterville, ME; three grandchildren, Emily (O’Brien) Broderick and her husband Michael Broderick of Salem, MA, Nasstassja and Bethany Karter-O’Brien, both of Maine; five great-grandchildren; and Jeffrey Karter of Waterville, ME, who was like a son to her. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 10 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody which will be followed by her Celebration of Life service at 11:30 a.m. The interment of ashes will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
