Obituary of Marguerite M. (Carney) Daley

Marguerite M. (Carney) Daley 88, died suddenly on May 8th. Daughter of the late John A. Carney and Kathryn E. (Callahan) Carney, she was the Loving wife of the late James T. Daley with whom she shared 45 years of marriage. Born and raised in Peabody, Marguerite graduated from St John’s High School in 1947, and went on to attend Salem State Teacher’s College, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1951. She Taught second grade at The South Memorial School for 18 years, and later taught first grade at Samuel Brown Elementary until retiring in 1994. She loved her teaching career, and enjoyed meeting and chatting with former students, who often recognized her, even years later. Marguerite loved to travel, and spent many wonderful summers in her youth exploring Europe and the United States with close friends. These were some of her fondest memories. An extrovert with a great sense of humor, Marg could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. She once said that she had such a happy childhood and wonderful marriage, that she wished she could live through both all over again. In addition to her husband, Marguerite was also predeceased by eight brothers and sisters: the late Catherine Carney, John F. Carney, Rita Odom, Ann Rutan, State Police Captain Leo J. Carney, Paul W. Carney, M. Barbara Carney, and Phillip Carney. She is survived by her loving daughter, Catherine Daley of Peabody, two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday morning at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility from 8:45 AM until 9:45 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann's Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St.Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in her memory.
