Obituary of Donald Harribine
Donald Harribine, 87, of Peabody, died on Wednesday May 9, 2018 at the Royal Meadow View Nursing Home in North Reading following a lengthy illness. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Joseph and Leola (Smith) Harribine. He was raised and educated in Rhode Island and has spent the last 46 years living in Peabody. Donald served in the Navy for over 30 years, 20 years on active duty and the last 10 years in the Navy Reserve. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and served a total of 6 ships, the last one being the USS Elokomin Donald’s most blessed possession in his life was his deepest respect for serving in the military and helping those after retirement and keeping them informed of all their benefits via his web-site and staying constantly on top of it. He never left the house without his beloved US Navy cap on his head with all his pins and honors. He saluted to every soldier that donned a cap of the same whether young or old. He was a true Boston Fan of all of our teams, Sox’s, Pats, Bruins and the Celtics. The latter of which his daughter, Karen took her father several times most recently last year in wheelchair. Donald loved animals deeply. When not on his computer working with the veterans, he would go to the animal shelters and he would sit with cats and dogs and give them love. He was an extremely passionate to animals. Donald also enjoyed volunteering with Meals and Wheels and worked part-time at Market Basket as well. He is survived by his two daughters, Gail and her husband Mario Salvatore of Gloucester and Karen Harribine with whom he resided with in Peabody for the past 5 years and was his care taker as well. He is also survived by his two sisters, Heather Jean Harribine of CO and Holly Harribine of Corpus Christy, TX and by his beloved 5 grandchildren, Thomas Trites, Kristen Trites Linawag and her husband Reynaldo Linawag, Melissa and her husband Matt Caracciolo, Melanie Gove, and James and his wife Elena Nellson, and his 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Jean Harribine-Trites and by his four brothers, David, Douglas, Edward “Dana”, and Dale Harribine. Donald’s Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Burial with military honors will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to either The Boxer Rescue, P.O. Box 440, Grafton, MA 01519 or to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
