Born in Gloucester on December 17, 1943, he was the son of the late Evelyn (Praderio) D’Amoura and Victor D’Amour. He was raised in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1961. Dana had two special gifts of intelligence and athletic skills, combined with a friendly, outgoing personality. Dana was captain of two of the most outstanding basketball and baseball teams in the school’s history. After high school he went on to study at Boston University where he earned his Bachelor’s and Masters Degrees, and later his Doctorate in Education. Upon moving to Peabody Dana taught Physical Education at the Higgins Junior High School, and later the Carroll and Burke Elementary Schools. He started working out at age 14 at the Gloucester YMCA, and continued throughout his life later at Mike’s Gym, Universe Gym, World Gym, The Zone, RMA, and more recently the Boston Sports Club. His other interests were playing recreation basketball for the Green Barrell and McNamara’s softball team. When he wasn’t playing sports, he was reading extensively or volunteering at My Brother’s Table, co-ordinating St. John’s School with Haven From Hunger, and serving several years as a Certified Ombudsman for the State of Mass. Or participating in various Companion Programs. For relaxation Dana could be found working on his tan at Good Harbor Beach, sitting in the sun in Pocasset in the Summer months or lying on the sand in Marco Island, FL. Besides his wife, he leaves his son Thomas Sang D’Amour of Ayer, many cousins, and his special friends Frank Medina, Edward Callahan, Tony Porcello, Earl Nason, Bob Danish, Jim Nangle, Bill Newbury and Paul LeBrun.
