Obituary of Sr. Caroline Julie Megevich, SNDdeN

Sister Caroline Julie (Lillian Barbara Megevich) slipped peacefully into the embrace of the good God at the Long-Term Care Center for the Sisters of Notre Dame in Worcester on October 24. Sister Caroline was born in Cambridge, MA in 1927 the daughter of Anna Gaidis and Francis Megevich both from Lithuania. Sister’s siblings William, Barbara, Anne and Frances all preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving nieces Barbara Ann Shelly and Joyce Lovett as well as several nephews. Sr. Caroline entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1945 after graduating from St. Mary HS in Cambridge. She pronounced her first vows in 1948 and her final vows in 1953. Sr. Caroline continued her education at Emmanuel College where she was awarded a BA in Math and later studied at the Catholic University of America where she earned an MTS in Math. In 1976, she received a MA in Theology from St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia. Much of Sr. Caroline’s life was spent as a beloved classroom teacher. Her ministries took her to Lawrence, Andover, Chicopee, Worcester, Boston Cambridge, and Tyngsboro. Later Sr. Caroline spent nine happy years at Bishop Fenwick in Peabody as the Scheduling Assistant and finally as secretary to the athletic director. Sr. Caroline retired to St. Julie Residential Care Center in 2004. She lived fourteen years among her Sisters continuing to radiate the joy and peace that marked her life from her earliest days. Sr. Caroline will be greatly missed by her sisters and many friends. The celebration of Sr. Caroline’s life will be held at Mary Queen Chapel in Ipswich on Monday, October 29. 1:00 Wake Service; 2:00 Prayer Service, 3:00 Liturgy of Christian Burial. Sister Burial will follow the service. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame at 30 Jeffreys Neck Road in Ipswich.
