It is with great sadness that I learn of Mary Ellen's passing. I had the honor and opportunity of working with Mary Ellen in the Peabody School System. Mary Ellen had the extremely important job of keeping the student enrollment and attendance records current and accurate. While it is important to know who is in the schools, Mary Ellen also had to report this data to the Massachusetts Department of Education - which in turn resulted in the State Chapter 70 financial aid to the City of Peabody. Mary Ellen's data was always completely accurate. In addition, Mary Ellen also had the job of calling substitute teachers each and every morning. However, more importantly, Mary Ellen was a great person. She always demonstrated a warm, caring and very friendly attitude. She loved telling a little story or joke, but really liked telling everyone about her family. Mary Ellen - you are a great person - and you will be missed!

Very sorry to hear about your moms passing. Although I have spoken to her in such a long time, the times when I have, I've always left with a smile and good feeling. As you know, I've spent many, many years involved with her one way or another involved with softball. She was always a pleasure. I'll miss her very much.

Mary Ellen Flynn was a special person and a treasured friend. I first 'met' her over the telephone when I started substituting for Peabody Public Schools.

Many of my days started by trying to answer the early morning phone calls as soon as possible just to stop the loud ringing, but barely awake enough to mumble, "Hello." It didn't matter though because Mary Ellen's cheerful, "Good morning!" always woke me up with a smile. She often rattled off a variety of choices, but other days she called with specific assignments such as music, art, or gym. In my sleepy state, she always managed to give me a bunch of ideas and fill me with enough confidence to think I could actually pull it off with my limited creative talents. I also recall other mornings when Mary Ellen called with a strategic plan to convince me to accept an assignment before knowing all the details. I laugh out loud remembering those mornings because she would slide in either, "Wear sneakers because it's field day," or "Dress warm because you're going on a field trip." Whatever ploy I fell for in my drowsy state, her last words were always reassuringly stating, "You'll be fine!" It takes a special person to wake someone up before 6:00 a.m. and make their day; that was definitely Mary Ellen.

I'll never forget my first day as a teacher. In those days, among the many duties Mary Ellen was responsible for, she printed all the attendance sheets for all the schools. Mary Ellen hand wrote, "Congratulations!" next to my name. Standing in my own classroom and holding my own attendance sheet for the very first time, Mary Ellen put a smile on my face and filled me with enough confidence to think I could do it. Thank you for all your support and encouragement throughout the years, Mary Ellen. May you rest in peace forever, my friend.

My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.

Very sorry to hear of Mary Ellen's passing. I have known Mary Ellen since I was a little girl growing up down Vet's Drive. Plus all the years I played softball. She will be missed and I am very sorry for your loss.

I was very saddened to learn of Mary Ellen's passing. I worked with Mary Ellen for many years in the Peabody School Department. She held several difficult roles in her work there and was a tireless worker for the staff and students that she served. I was always impressed with how much she worked "off the clock". She was always upbeat, funny, and outgoing with all she came in contact with. She loved her family and would always talk about them in such a caring way.

My sincere condolences to her wonderful family and to all her friends she left behind. She was "one of a kind". I am so sorry that I now live so very far away and will be unable to pay my personal respects to my friend and her family.
