Obituary of Jeanette L. Simmons

Jeanette L. (Murphy) Simmons, 96, of Peabody, died peacefully Friday afternoon surrounded by her loving family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Haskel Simmons. Born in Arlington, she was the daughter of the late John and Georgianna (Rosenberger) Murphy. She was raised and educated in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School, class of 1939. She lived in Peabody for the past 64 years. Jeanette was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Coast Guard before her honorable discharged in 1946. Jeanette was an office manager for the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents for over 23 years before she retired. She also served on the board at the former Marian Court Jr College in Swampscott for many years. Jeanette was a long-time communicant of St. Ann’s Church and member of the Sodality club. She enjoyed quilting, making over 120 quilts throughout her years. She was also a member of the American Legion in Brookline. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the Kaplan Estates, Care Dimensions and Freedom Home Care for their compassion, caring, and their professionalism during these difficult times. The family is truly grateful. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Gary Moran and Mary and Steven Ingersoll, all of Peabody, her beloved three grandchildren, James and his wife Jaime Lisk, Jared and his wife Katelyn Ingersoll, all of Peabody and Emily and her husband Nicholas Cedrone of Billerica, her four great grandchildren, Jack, Hayes, Ava, and Jared James. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Lawrence J. Murphy. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lynn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
