Obituary of Richard J. Leslie

Richard J. Leslie, 71, beloved husband of Nancy (Thyberg) Leslie, died unexpectedly on Saturday evening January 5, 2019 at the Lahey Medical Center Hospital in Peabody. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Hourihan) Leslie. He grew up in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. He continued his education at Salem State College with a degree in business. Mr. Leslie was a Director of Human Resources at General Electric in Lynn where he enjoyed at 41 - year career, retiring 17 years ago. Richard was a member of the Salem Moose Lodge, serving as a former Governor and on the Board of Directors. He enjoyed golfing and traveling, especially to Bermuda, and he supported many charities. He was devoted in his Catholic faith, was an Altar Server in his youth at St. Mary’s Church in Lynn and active at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. He will be remembered as a caring, generous person who was always willing to help others, and as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Thyberg) Leslie of Peabody, with whom he shared 56 years of memories together, and 50 years of marriage; a son Michael Leslie and his wife Tennille of Salem; a sister, Norene Donovan of Danvers; three brothers, Jack Leslie of Peabody, Robert Leslie of Beverly, and Charles Leslie of Salem, and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Joan Rich. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday January 11, 2019 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lynn.
