Obituary of Arthur M. Maguire, Jr

Arthur M Maguire, Jr, 85, of Peabody, died Thursday morning surrounded by his loving family at the Kaplan family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Joanne C. (Lawrence) Maguire. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Arthur M. Maguire, Sr and Ruth P. (Little) Maguire. He was a life-long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1950. After high school, Arthur enlisted with the United States Air Force and was honorable discharged in 1954. Arthur was a carpenter by trade and worked independently and with different construction companies throughout the North Shore for many years, and then he worked for the city of Peabody School Department for 10 years before he finally retired. While in high school, Arthur played on the hockey, baseball, and golf teams and upon his graduation from high school, he continued playing sports in men’s league for softball and later at the Meadow golf course in Peabody. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle throughout New England and especially the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Arthur’s family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and volunteers at the Kaplan Family Hospice House for their compassion and professionalism throughout this past week. They are truly grateful of their kindness and support. Arthur is survived by three children, John, Pattie, and Kim Maguire, all of Peabody, his sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Peter Ellis of Gilford, NH, his brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Carol Maguire of Peabody, and by his beloved five grandchildren, Mathew Maguire, Jessica Applin, Katelyn Civian, and Kevin and Mark Maguire. He was predeceased by his sons Lawrence and Michael Maguire and his daughter Judith Maguire. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 9:30 until 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody followed by his Funeral Service at 11:30 at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St, Peabody.
