Obituary of John J. Capomaccio

John J Capomaccio, 89, of Andover, died Sunday at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Angie (Ferraro) Capomaccio with whom he shared over 63 years of marriage. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late John and Florence (Vaudo) Capomaccio of Gaeta, Italy. He was raised and educated in Somerville and has spent the last 47 years living in Andover. John was a graduate of Salem State College, class of 1957 and continued his education at Boston University and received his master’s degree in 1959. John was in the Saugus School system for over 38 years. He was a guidance counselor for the first 14 years and then he taught all subjects including math, history, and science for the last 24 years before he finally retired. John served as a Trappist Monk for five years and later enrolled in the seminary school and became a Deacon and was a loyal and dedicated deacon at St. Augustine’s Church in Andover and served in many capacities for over 40 years. He also enjoyed playing his daily game of scrabble with his wife and was an avid fan of all of Boston’s professional sports teams, especially the New England Patriots. Besides his loving wife of 63 years, he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Maria and Timothy Dassinger of NC, and Rose and Terry Retelle of Andover, his sister, Ann Garrett of Nahua, NH, and by his beloved 4 grandchildren, Tyler Rogers, Samantha Dassinger, and Jackson and Lily Retelle and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Nancy Jillson, Josephine Capomaccio, and Cosmo Capomaccio. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at St. Augustine’s Church, 43 Essex St, Andover, followed by his Funeral Mass on Saturday at 9:30 AM at St. Augustine’s Church to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.
