Obituary of Bruce David Barr
Bruce David Barr, 84, of West Peabody, died Wednesday morning at his residence after a brief illness. He was the husband of Elizabeth M. (English) Barr with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
He was born in Peabody on September 4, 1919, the son of the late Ralph J. and Helen (Putney) Barr and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He attended Essex Agricultural
School in Middleton.
He entered the US Navy during WW 11 serving overseas with the 33 rd division of Navy Sea Bees.
Following his discharge, he began working as a bus driver of Eastern Mass Street Railway out of the Lynn Garage. He also drive a bus for the Peabody School
Dept. in West Peabody. Later he owned and operated the Bruce Barr Oil Co. for 27 years. He then became a security guard at the Salem Hospital for 16 years prior to his
Retirement in 2002.
He loved motorcycles and was a member of the Police Blue Nights Motorcycle group. He also loved to garden and grow flowers. He was a member of the Jordan Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Peabody and a member of the Shrine Temple at Wilmington.
Surviving him besides his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Miriam and Steven Weick of West Peabody, a son, Bruce Clow of NH, a sister and brother-in-law, Miriam and John Chase of Peabody, 2 grandchildren, Bruce-John Weick and Timothy Martin both of West Peabody, a brother-in-law, John Smith of Lynnfield and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Helen Smith.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Peabody. Visiting hours on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are
