A final goodbye to my best friend
Butch and I have been friends for 52 years. He was with me when I first met my wife Karen who I have been married to for 50 years now. He and I have been through the good and the bad times, but mostly good. When we started having families, we included them into our friendship and to this day we are all very close.
We made a good team; I would have an idea and he would find a way to make it work. Together we were like Bill Neigh the science guy and Rube Goldberg rolled into one. There was nothing that we couldn’t “customize” or a job too big for us to tackle. We wore the “stop work orders” that we have accumulated over the years as a badge of honor.
Butch has done so much to help all of us. If something was broken or needed to be built, he was there. He used the theory that it was easier to obtain forgiveness than approval, this was especially useful when permits were required for a project. He wasn’t big on paper work.
I don’t know anyone who had a bad word for him. When something was broken and looked like as it were headed for the trash, the next words were, Butch can fix that. Most times he would.
When you think about it, all we have are memories. When I think of Butch, I’ll always remember the trips we took with our families and the events that made each one special.
He didn’t find a cure for some disease or invent something that we all use today. What he did do was to touch everyone’s heart with his kindness and willingness to help in any situation. That is what we will all remember. I will miss him.
Your buddy Brian

So many memories, so much love shared - Butch and Betsy were always our first visitors no matter how far away we moved - and this time - they even picked out the place where we now live! And although the halfway point between Houston and Danvers is still in question - we had a ball in Nashville. God's peace Butchy - and God's blessings to Betsy and your beautiful family.
