Obituary of Ruth Helen (Pinkney) Morfis

Peabody- Ruth H. (Pinkney) Morfis, 83, beloved wife of the late Christ G. Morfis, died on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Beverly Hospital. Born and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Vernon C. and Helen G. (Clarrage) Pinkney. She attended Peabody Schools and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1954. Ruth worked as a waitress and was employed by Towne Lyne House for over 20 years. She was an active member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, having taught Sunday school, and sat as a board member on the Parish council for many years. Ruth was named “Parishioner of the year” in 2011. She also served as President of the Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos. Ruth is survived by her son, Stephen V. Morfis of Peabody, her daughter, Jayna A. Lowe and her husband Richard of Beverly, two stepsons, George Morfis of Peabody, and Peter Morfis of Danvers, a sister, Edna C. Pinkney of Peabody, thirteen grandchildren, James Morfis-Gass, Connor Lowe, Arianna and Hannah Lowe, Chris, Mary Kate, Tom, and Tiffany Gass, George, Lisa, Chris, Laura, and John Morfis, three great grandchildren, Declan, Merrick and Graham Gass, her nephew, David and his wife Christine Barrett, and her sister-in-law, Betty Pinkney, and many more beloved relatives. Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law,Christine Morfis and Daniel Gass, her stepdaughter, Elaine Rice, her brother, Vernon C. Pinkney Jr., her sister, Lena Barrett, and her grandson, Firefighter James Rice. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. All attendees are required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Ruth’s memory.
